GCFLearnFree.org® is supported by the Goodwill Community Foundation, Inc. (GCF®), whose mission is "to create and provide education, employment, and life enrichment opportunities for people who desire to improve the quality of their lives".
GCFLearnFree.org exists to serve the educational part of the GCF mission. We create and provide quality, innovative online learning opportunities to anyone who wants to improve the technology, literacy, and math skills necessary for them to be successful in both work and life. We believe there's freedom in the ability to learn what you want, when you want, regardless of your circumstances.

ALISON provides high-quality, interactive, certified and standards-based learning free to the individual learner. ALISON can offer free learning because:

Advertising is displayed throughout the website. When a learner clicks on an advertisement, ALISON earns revenue. That revenue is then shared with content publishers and used to invest in new 'free to the learner' offerings. Nominal fees are charged for the use of ALISON Manager, the service which allows for the creation and monitoring of learner groups.
Much of our available learning is sponsored by partner organizations who wish to see learning on a particular subject freely available. Other content is provided by owners and developers of learning content who provide it at no charge and are seeking no monetary return. Others publishers earn a split on the revenue we generate through the display of their content.

The mission of Free-Ed.Net is to provide quality online educational opportunities at no cost to the student. This is truly an answer to many of the education difficulties in America and a viable missionary effort for third-world nations.
But as the old saying goes: There is no such thing as a free lunch. That's true. However, we have choices about who will bear the costs of creating and maintaining this large and growing website. And the costs are not, and never will be, born by the students, teachers, and parents who use it. So that leaves commerical advertising and public donations.
